He did it! He did it! Jeff ran 26.2 miles to complete his first full marathon in honor of the one-year anniversary of his father's lost battle with cancer. He finished in 4hrs and 45 minutes (almost 2 hours faster that I did a few years ago)! Jeff Maggio, you are awesome! We love you!

Wow, this is one of those amazing days --- my eldest turned 16 today. It's weird, honestly. I certainly don't feel old enough to be here.

Dylon, I remember the day you were born like it was yesterday. It was 1:00am and you were staring at me with those huge brown eyes and very long dark brown hair. Your cheeks were mega-fat and you were the cutest little bundle of joy I had ever seen. I was exhausted and went to bed soon after, but I couldn't sleep. I got up and walked down to the hospital nursery to just peek at you once again. You were so sweet.

You are growing into a fine young man and I cannot wait to see all you become in Christ. I love you, son!

My 3 Amazing Kids

Well, this pretty much describes our life over the last few weeks. We discovered on last week that Dylon had a broken foot. The sad thing is that he had it for 2 months, but we didn't know the severity, so he is cast-bound for 8-12 weeks and misses playing in the basketball nationals -- where he earned a starting spot on a 17-year-old team! In addition, high school finals have inundated our home, as the kids have studied and prepared 7 days a week.

Adrianne is SOOOO super-shy at this age. I guess I must have been too, although it is hard to imagine. She just clams up when she has to perform on stage or take pics in front of a crowd. It was the cutest little graduation. They sang cute songs, recited all the books in the New Testament, all the fruits of the Spirit, and told about their favorite stories of the year. It is amazing how much four-year-old can retain!

As many of you know, Ashton has taken dance for two years now as part of her curriculum at her school. However, this school year, Dylon decided to join the fun, and he, too, takes dance. Actually, they both have proven to be quite good. Every year the school puts on a dance recital for the students to display their talents in several areas, including ballet and contemporary. I thoroughly enjoyed the creativity of the teachers and the kids. The pics are not that great, but I hope you enjoyed them.

Lynn Dove is a graduate of the University of Calgary, where she earned her Bachelor of Education degree in 1981, she has spent the last thirty years teaching children in the private and public school settings. In 2007, she earned a Masters of Religious Education degree from the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary, in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada.

Tell me something about yourself?
I am a Christ-follower, a wife, a mom, a soon-to be grandmother, a teacher and a writer (in that order). I wear so many different “hats” that I find prioritizing them tends to focus me better. I have been married to my best friend, Charles for 32 years and we have three wonderful children: daughter, Laurelle (husband, Matt) are expecting our first grand baby in February, and we have two live-at-home teenagers, Brett and Carmen. I have been a teacher most of my adult life, and I still substitute from time to time at the private Christian school my teenagers attend. I love volunteering and working closely with the youth in our church as well. Lastly, when I’m not writing, I’m reading. I love to blog and when I’m not blogging, I’m working on my next book.

Do you have a life verse that you have claimed and why is it so meaningful to you?
My husband, Charles and I have claimed this life verse: “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 Through our nearly 32 years of marriage, this verse has sustained us through all the ups and downs of life knowing we may make our plans but God is always in control… AND He allows U-turns!

What led you to write your “Wounded Trilogy” books? Why did you target youth with these books?
Having been an educator for over thirty years, and I discovered that there are still very few good contemporary Christian books for a young adult audience.
Youth today are under such a spiritual attack from the enemy. He wants to destroy their spirit and he does it subtly by surrounding them with worldly messages that make them question their looks, their intelligence, as well as their hope for tomorrow. I wanted to write books that deal with relevant themes, but with a definitive Christian message running throughout: the hope in Jesus Christ.

I also wanted my young readers to know that everyone makes mistakes; Christians are not excluded from that. Scripture teaches us to “love one another” even when they make mistakes, however our actions speak louder than our words at times. I have seen wonderful young people crumble from the constant barrage of cyberspace bullying, malicious gossip and innuendo. Insensitive words and blatant lies can lead to deep emotional scarring sometimes with tragic consequences. My books deal with gritty topics such as “cutting”, bullying, gossip, family violence and cancer. We are not excluded from tough situations just because we are Christians, on the contrary it is exactly in those tough times that God comes alongside us and helps us. I want my young readers to understand that they are never alone; God is their ever present comfort and strength in everything they are going through.

Could you tell us a little bit about your books?
Shoot the Wounded, the first book of the Wounded Trilogy, is written for youth and young adults. It addresses how lies and gossip destroy a person's spirit and speaks to the heart of relevant themes such as bullying, teen pregnancy and family violence. The story points the characters, and ultimately the reader, to hope in Jesus Christ. STW was a finalist in the 2010 Readers Favorite Book Awards.
Heal the Wounded, is the much-anticipated sequel to STW and the second book of the Wounded Trilogy. HTW delves even deeper into the real world of teenagers trying to live out their faith in the midst of upset and struggle. Heal the Wounded, continues to follow the characters, Jake, Leigh, Mike (Jake's best friend), and Tim (Ronnie's brother) each of them dealing with the aftermath of their friend’s death in the first book. Jake is especially dealing with a variety of disappointments (“Job” experiences I call them) that cause him to question why God allows bad things to happen to good people. A new character is introduced into the story, Cassidy, a young cancer patient whose unquenchable spirit and faith impacts Jake, Leigh, Mike and Tim in a way that allows them all to experience God's grace and the power of His healing in each one of their lives.
Both STW and HTW have been selected as helpful resources on the world’s largest anti-bullying website: www.bullying.org
I hope to have Love the Wounded, the final book in the trilogy published next year. I am also writing an autobiographical account about my experiences and personal battle with breast cancer, and I am working on putting that book proposal together to submit to prospective publishers next year.

I've been missing my Dad lately. This is not surprising to me since it has only been a couple of months since he's been gone. I guess I found it hard to truly express myself right when it happened. He had only been diagnosed with esophageal cancer one month before he died.

My Dad and I did not always have the best relationship, in fact there were several years where we only communicated 2 or 3 times per year. The fondest memories I have of him are from my childhood, when I would wake him up early on Saturday mornings and we would watch Bugs Bunny together, or going to football games or to the movies together to see some science fiction blockbuster. These are the memories that shaped me and even though we grew apart, we still had that.

I guess the thing that I can't stop thinking about is that there is no longer an opportunity for us to rekindle our relationship. This was always a hope of mine, and something that I casually took for granted would eventually happen. Even when we learned of his illness and started the month long journey, it seemed surreal to me, as if I knew what was happening, but the severity and finality of it all did not sink in.

I took the opportunity in the last week of his life to talk to him and relive some of the past with him. He told me some stories of his high school years and young adult years that I had never heard, and I soaked it all in. I asked him what his fondest memory of me was and he reflected thoughtfully before he answered. He seemed to be going back in time in his head and really trying to decide, and it was a moment I will never forget, watching him reflect back. He finally told me that just after I was born he would take me with him everywhere, and that I laughed all the time. He said that he remembered playing with me for hours, and that he could just reach out his hand to tickle me and I would start dying laughing without even being touched. We both laughed at this and I kissed his head, and I remember thinking that I wished I had more time. More time for these types of conversations to get to know my Dad in a whole new way. More time for him to talk to my kids about me growing up, and to watch them grow up. More time.

I will see him again, though not in this life, but in Heaven. The comfort I have of praying with my Dad in his final days means more to me than anything else, because we have eternity. This life is temporary, and I would encourage anyone, if you still have the chance, to put aside past hurt,anger, or bitterness, and reach out to a loved one that you haven't talked to in awhile. Do it while you still have time.

Hey Jennifer! I had a great time at the Christmas party tonight. I was on my way out to round up my boys, and noticed that you were busy talking to someone...but just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you for all that you have done and are doing in the lives of single mothers/women, including myself. Tonight, I ALMOST left when my son, Seth's, number came up on the screen (as he needed assistance)...I immediately knew what it was about. Each time I have brought Seth (my one and 1/2 year old) to the childcare area, I have been called to get him due to him BITING another child!! After the first couple of times, I started to ask around....asked his teachers, caregivers, brothers....anyone he comes into contact with....if biting has been a problem for them. All have said no..so tonight when they told me that he couldn't stay n there, I basically became discouraged.....I thought to myself "Man, of all nights, why did Seth pick the ONE night that I'm trying to do something special for ME?!"....well, to make a long story short, I attempted to leave, but NO ONE would let me!!! Several women, none of which I had met prior to tonight, came up to me offering to watch Seth so that I could go back in...eventually I gave in....I looked over as I was listening to you, and I noticed Seth along the wall laying peacefully on the shoulder of the nice woman who volunteered to keep him company...saying all of this to say...THANK YOU!!! I have never felt so welcomed, loved, special, and comfortable as I do at Healing Place....I appreciate you for sharing your story and I am excited about spending the upcoming year becoming more and more intimate with God and connecting with many more people like you!!! On Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, HPC Single Moms will throw its annual Christmas Extravaganza for area single moms. We expect 200 single moms and their children to be part of this event. These moms are from all over our city, representing several churches, and come from all different backgrounds. We have teen moms and moms in their 50s. We have unwed, divorced, and widowed mothers. Many moms work two jobs and/or go to school full-time. We teach them parenting, finances, emotional stability, and spiritual growth. We have experienced 700% growth in the last 3 years and are seeking donations to help fund the party, gifts, etc.

It has been a whirlwhind of a few weeks, to say the least. It seems we've been inundated with death, tragedy, and great victories, all at the same time.

A month ago, I accepted positions to write for Halo Magazine and Single Parents Town. My book is selling out across the country. Lifeway's Parent Magazine has decided to feature me in their magazine, and so much more! I just finished a week-long book tour across East Texas and believe God did a great work there. Jeff continues to shine at his job and has had some of his most productive months with his business. The kids are each flourishing at their different schools and are healthy and happy.

However, we've watched as sadly Jeff's grandfather slowly passed away at 86 years old and two of our church elders passed away this week (both of which we were very fond of). In addition, one of my closest friends continues to fight for her life at 33 years old with Cystic Fibrosis and it's been heart-breaking to watch. And Jeff's father is losing his VERY short and unexpected battle against cancer.

There have been such emotional high's and low's, and we now find ourselves quite exhausted from it all. We've chosen to take the next few days to just rest and focus on our family.

Adrianne has had quite the adventure the last few days. First, I volunteered to go with her preschool as a chaperone to the Pumpkin Patch. I spent the day with 3-year-olds as they picked out pumpkins, got their face painted, and played game.

A few days later, she was invited to a friend's birthday party and they had a live petting zoo come over! They have pigmy goats, pigmy roosters/chickens, huge rabbits, a huge turtle, a baby alligator and more! Above, are a few pics from the events. Enjoy.

Update on the Kids

This Dylon's Back to School Blessing for Athletes at his school. It was a beautiful thing to see the coaches praying over all the kids for safety. He has really been enjoying football season, thus far. He works hard. Dylon has also started his Driver's Education classes, so it looks like in a few weeks, he will officially be a driver. Scary, huh?!
Miss Ashton, my beautiful daughter, is enjoying the school year. She is currently practicing ballet with the school and loves it. She is awaiting her upcoming basketball season.
Little Miss Stinker is getting so big. She is 3 years old and really enjoying her new school. She loves getting her lunch box and backpack together every day. She is talking more about God and telling me that "She loves God." She prays for me when I'm tired or have a headache. She's a sweetie.

I have had the most wonderful few days with Jeff. Our 3 children have been spending time with friends out of town, so Jeff and I have had the house all to ourselves. It is such a blessing to have the alone time. We've gone out to dinner, had coffee, watched movies, and gone running together several times. It's been a beautiful time.

I am thankful that my Heavenly Father loved me enough to send this very special man into my life--a man I didn't deserve, a wonderful father to my children, and the Godly head of our household. I have been reminded this week how much I love him, why I married him and why we are best friends. I love you baby!

This is a picture of Adrianne this morning. I slept in a bit and she came to my room to wake me. "Good Moooorrrrrnnnning!!!! It's time for you to get up and fix me some pancakes!!!!!!!!!!!!" It was the funniest thing, especially given she was wearing a blue/green tutu, purple Dora hat, and black/white skater shoes. I asked her why she was dressed like that. Her response? "I'm cold!"

I have to give a shout-out to my handsome son. He is in the middle of a major basketball camp. He worked out from 8am-12pm yesterday, then had another practice from 4pm-6pm. Then, he played in a basketball game from 7-8pm, that they won. Then.....they had an overnight stay, where they played 5-on-5 starting at 10pm. He played 9 hours of basketball yesterday! And he's back at it again this a.m.!

The Summer with My Kids

I have looked forward to the summer for quite some time as the end of the school year always gets hectic with tests and running around from here to there. Thankfully, we are now in summer mode. I'd like to tell you that it has slowed down, but............ let's see. Dylon and Ashton are both playing summer basketball, so they lift weights and work out 3 times a week. Then, they usually have games 2-3 nights a week (each at diff't locations). They have both signed up for a church's summer internship. This will be Dylon's 4th year to do it and Ashton's 2nd. This is an intense Bible study and outreach time, where young kids 12-18 learn how to truly serve the Lord and others.

Then, there's friends, summer camps, activities, so why was I waiting for summer again?

I will tell you that the most precious thing happened this morning. As a family, we've committed to having a specific devotional and prayer time together every afternoon. My 3-year-old, Adrianne, came up to me first thing this morning to sit in my lap and tell me how she loved me and I was the "greatest momma in the whole world." Then, she asked, "Momma, can we do our Bible study now?" That's priceless.

Adrianne is our 3-year-old and I write about her often. She is loads of fun. The above pictures are just some cute pics we caught as she loved on her big brother, her niece, and paraded around in her tutu. She wears a tutu almost every single day and loves "being a cheerleader" in it.

I thought I would share a couple cute things she says or does:

- "Momma, listen. I'm the pawent and you the kid!"

- As I was combing her hair recently, she was singing and talking to herself and then stops, cold in her tracks, and clasps her hands together and says, "Momma, let's pray. Lawd...please bless my momma, my daddy, my bubba, and my sissy. And thank you for Ms. Daurie and the birds. Amen!"

- "I so sowwy momma for jumping on the couch." (before I even catch her!)

- We were running errands the other day and I decided to stop for breakfast. She and I were sitting at our table as the waitress came to check on us and asked how everything was. Adrianne replies, "I don't like this westawaunt!"

- At bedtime.......... "Momma, I don't wanna go to bed. I slept yesterday!"

We were having trouble with our flash on our camera, so the pictures are not of good quality, but Ashton is in the red dress in some of the photos, as she participated in the group number-- The Hoedown Picnic. Then, she is in a yellow dress for the 7th grade dance piece and I actually cried on this performance. The other two girls she danced with had years of dance training and Ashton has only danced this school year. I absolutely could not believe how beautifully she danced. Her teacher wrote me a letter saying she was one of the most talented students she'd had in years and that it was amazing how quickly she picked up on the beat of music. She did have a dance number in a tutu, as well and I'm hoping to download that video, too.

I cannot begin to describe the whirlwind of a trip that we just embarked upon! We spent 5 days in D.C. cramming 14-hour days and little sleep into seeing literally every major monument, statue, museum, and historical site the D.C. area had to offer. My mind is still spinning. I took 100s of pics and thought I'd share just a few with you here.

We were fortunate enough to have been invited inside the White House and visited the Supreme Court, FDR Memorial, Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery, Capitol Building, Library of Congress, Holocaust Museum, Ford's Theatre, Peterson House, Arlington Virginia area, Lincoln Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial, WWII Memorial, Vietnam Wall, The Smithsonian Institute & Museum, The National Cathedral, The Newseum, the Pentagon Mall, and much, much more.
It was an awesome trip with my soon-to-be 13 year old, and a once in a lifetime experience. We even saw the President at the White House!!!!

Adrianne tells me, "Mom, you make the bestest snacks! This is a pic of her enjoying a chocolate pie I made recently. She is such a silly girl....always giggling, with a deep belly laugh. It is too cute! She's becoming very grown up. Yesterday, when the older kids got into the car, she said, "How was your day at school?"

Random pics of Ashton's recent volleyball game. I tried to get as many as I could of her serving, hitting, etc. She is a very talented volleyball player and enjoys this sport the best of all her sports.

I took this yesterday at the orthodontist while Ashton got her braces tightened. She LOVES her braces. She had wanted them for two years. She's had them now for about two months.

Adrianne still continues to have a "unique" taste in outfits. This was about 8:30pm last night and she had been bathed and in her night clothes for several hours. A while later, she came out with black tights, her Dora shoes, pink bathing suit and her backpack on her back. She announced that she looked "beautiful" and that God likes that!

I have the best husband ever. I really do. I have been under enormous stress with the book, ministry, parenting, everything - having not slept in almost three weeks to amount to much, and my husband surprised me yesterday by staying home. It was a big deal, because I have been feeling lonely and simply exhausted. Adrianne, Jeff, and I ran errands together, went to the library, and then had lunch. I was later able to come home and take a long nap, while he went to sit in car line for me. It doesn't seem like much to some, but to me, it was just what I needed.

He is always writing me love notes and leaving them out or simply telling me how beautiful I am. Trust is key and I don't have to fret about where he is.

I love that he loves God first and isn't ashamed for people to know that. And..............the truth is......I never thought I would have this or even deserved it.

Randomness

For some reason, I cannot get our camera to work, so I guess I'll just do a quick update. The last 30 days has been adventurous. Ashton finished out her basketball season with a twisted knee than landed her on crutches for a week. She is now fine. Dylon finished out his basketball season for the school losing in the third round of the playoffs. Ashton is moving into volleyball season next week and Dylon is moving into AAU basketball season (summer basketball).

Jeff, Dylon, and I ran the Mardi Gras Mambo 10k this morning. Jeff had trained for weeks. Dylon and I decided this morning that we would run, too. Jeff finished in 54 minutes, Dylon in 55 minutes, and me in 1 hr 10 minutes. It was fun. Ashton stayed at the finish line with Adrianne.

The kids were out of school last week, so we enjoyed the week together. I took them to the zoo and we just chilled out (which we so needed).

Adrianne's Taste in Clothes

I am not kidding you when I tell you this is how Adrianne dressed EVERY day. She wears the loudest outfit she has. She always has to have on TIGHTS and a SKIRT. Today, she chose an orange shirt, pink skirt, red tights, and loud green socks. I already had her dressed & she secretly changed into this.

She told me that she is not "beautiful" in pants, only in skirts.

Her other ensemble is to wear a pink leotard with white tights, EVERYWHERE. She has to practice her "ballet" as she tells me.

Dylon's Basketball Season

I thought I would share some photos from Dylon's basketball season. He's had a great season, averaging 22 points a game. He had a season-high of 34 points with 18 rebounds. The season is about half-way done and we've had a great time. We enjoy watching him play (even when it is 3 games a week)!

I am super-blessed (my new, most frequently used word) to announce that I was featured on another radio program last night. Tina Fortune of SPARK WISDOM (http://www.sparkwisdom.org/) is a fellow single moms ambassador who loves the Lord and loves single moms. I am thankful she has given us an avenue to reach more single moms.

We are raising awareness on how to minister to these women and encouraging other churches and non-profits on the country to get on board.

Today is Adrianne's 3rd birthday and her first ever party! Her birthday is so close behind Christmas that we typically do not do anything for her party, but this year she was super-excited to have a party. She has several little friends to show up, despite it being a traveling weekend for many.

We had a great time. She really enjoyed her presents and her Curious George Birthday cake and themed-party.

Our family has had the best time over the last week or so. I have enjoyed the older children being out of school. Ashton has gone ice skating. We took the kids bowling, to the movies and out to Koto Hibachi Japanese Grill. We've walked around the mall. Jeff and I have been able to sneak away for coffee and a date night once. We had a quiet day on Christmas this year, with several friends stopping by to enjoy the holiday. We ended the night with good friends having a dancing contest.

It has been a super-busy few weeks. I enjoy the holiday season and all it has to offer--- family, friends, and fun. I have officially completed all my Christmas shopping. We had the HPC Single Moms Christmas Party last weekend and it was gorgeous. I think I was consumed with the party for a few weeks, so I am happy to be back to normal! I went last week to watch Dylon and Ashton perform in the school Christmas chapel. Dylon played the hand chimes (pic above), which I had never seen before. It was very cool. I was able to catch one pic before my camera batteries went dead. Ashton danced in a ballet trio that almost made me cry. She was graceful and beautiful.

We had one family get-together this weekend at our house and plan to have another one at Jeff's grandmother's home on Christmas eve. We've done 9 Christmas parties in the last 14 days!

I am taking off a few weeks from the single moms group, just to rest and enjoy my wonderful family. Dylon and Ashton have school today (Monday) and then will be out for two weeks. Ashton will be getting her braces next week. We plan to just take it easy for a few days.

I typically put a letter in with my Christmas cards reporting to all friends and family how we are doing. In light of Facebook, Twitter, and Blogs, I decided to fore go the formal letter (and save a tree)!

It's been a good year for the Maggios. We started the year with Jeff working for the same company that he had worked with for almost 10 years. Business was slow, as it had been for more than a year, but we were hanging in there. The company announced in March that after 135 years of service, they were closing their doors. Within 24 hours, Jeff began setting up interviews. He had a job less than 10 days later. His new job is basically doing the same thing he did before, but it has turned into a much more lucrative position. He is happier and is actually busy doing loans again. Yeah! Jeff also stepped into a more active role in the men's group at church and is assisting with leadership duties there, along with continuing to play in the church band. He runs his second half-marathon this Saturday (13.1 miles).

Dylon has been busy also. He finished out his school year at his old school with straight A's. He spent the summer playing AAU basketball and attending a summer internship at our church. He has now entered his second semester at his new school and is thriving. He finished his first semester with football and is now playing basketball. He had all A's, 2 B's on his first report card.

Ashton spent the summer playing softball and also attending our church's summer internship program. She loves her new school, as well. She had all A's, 1 B on her first report card. She played softball for the fall semester and is now participating in basketball. She attends her first Christmas Holly Ball this Friday. She and I are attending a trip together to Washington, D.C. in March 2010 with her 7th grade class.

Adrianne is just a bundle of joy. She has finally grown some hair and I love it! :) She is with me every day, volunteering, running errands, etc. She knows her ABC's and can identify most all her letters and numbers, 1-10. She does "school" once a week, with a curriculum I found. She is very obedient and a joy to be around. She loves Dylon and Ashton!

Many of you have wondered about the progress of the book. It is currently in production and will be out Spring or Summer 2010. There is lots of silence during this time of production, whereby editing is taking place. I am excited about the growth of the single moms group. We are continuing to add ladies weekly. I spend much of my time counseling, emailing, and talking with single moms. I am still actively running and cooking (which seems to be much of my life these days). I run Dylon and Ashton from one event to the other. I am looking forward to what's next with the single moms venture, but do not know exactly what that is. I have 2 radio shows and a magazine interview lined up, along with 2 featured articles in on-line magazines.

We are thankful for all God is teaching us during this time and all his many blessings on our lives. I am finished with my holiday shopping (an all-time record for me) and have gotten up all the Christmas decorations. I am super-excited about Christmas. I have 9 Christmas parties lined up in the next 20 days.........my favorite time of year!

To my handsome son,

Today is your day, your 14th birthday! I cannot believe you are 14. It is official that you are no longer a boy, but on a journey to manhood. It's weird and emotional and exciting, all at the same time. I can honestly say that I could not be more proud of you. You work extremely hard on your grades and sports. You are so handsome, so kind. I love how good you are with Adrianne. She loves her big bubby. I love that you and Ashton tell secrets to one another and protect each other. You are a special young man who has a bright future in store. I only wish I had a baby picture that I could embarrass you with! (I couldn't get any of them to scan correctly onto the computer, too bad).

Ashton's First Public Ballet Performance

Ashton performed yesterday afterschool, along with another girl, to celebrate the grand opening of the school's coffee shop. She did beautifully. Her ballet teacher was pleased with their performance.

She had never been Trick or Treating before and I haven't taken any of my kids in many years. However, I thought it was innocent fun and really wanted to see her get out and enjoy herself. I figured she would be super duper shy and not say a word, but boy was I wrong! She bee-bopped right up to each door and loudly proclaimed "Trick or Treat", as she then shouted, "Thank you" after each gift. She sometimes even gave a quick cheer of "Go Tigers!" The whole family walked around the neighborhood and it took about an hour. She had the best time, actually we all did. We took turns taking her up to the door.

My aunt and her friend drove many hours to experience this with me.

There were funny skits, powerful speakers, inspiring songs, and 100s of corn dogs! There were 1200-1300 women present with another 1000 online. You cannot put into words how God moved on the ladies that were part of this event. I've been part of many ladies events through the years and this was like none other.

To My Children...

Each of my children is so special & different. I love them so much. When I look at little Adrianne, I cannot believe how fast it is all happening. She is the cutest little thing! She announced to me last week, "I pwanning my burfday party. It gonna be at Chuck-E-Cheese!" Yes, she has decided 3 months early and without any prompting from her mother, that she would plan her own party.

As I posted recently, Ashton has been busy doing softball, ballet, and school. She starts basketball in a couple weeks. She received her report card today and her dance teacher had written her the sweetest letter. "Ashton in twenty years of teaching dance, I have never seen someone learn as quickly as you. It is amazing how you learn each nuance of a skill and your sensitivity to music. I hope you recognize the gift you have. Keep dance in your life." Wow, how sweet for a mom to hear that!

Dylon is busy too. He is playing football and basketball will start for him a few weeks, too. His teachers wrote him letters too. The common theme was as follows: "Dylon, you are a born leader. You bring the same drive and enthusiasm for sports to the academic field. You are polite and kind."

She's showing us her new ballet moves. Ballet is one of her electives this year. She loves it.

Then, we have the tom-boy. She is an all-around athlete, playing softball, swimming, volleyball, and basketball. This is at last night's ball game.

I love my kids, really do. Each one is so special and different. Ashton is growing into a beautiful young lady, both inside and out. She has this bright personality. She is loud, unfortunately, but I guess that is an honest trait. She is super-smart, also social. She brings me such job.

See You At The Pole!!!

Early a.m., the kids headed out early to school for See You At The Pole, an annual student-organized prayer time that started almost 20 years ago and takes place all over the world. Several thousand students gathered around their flag poles at school and prayer for our country and our President. I was proud to get up early and take them for this event.

Thank you, Cindy! My friend, Cindy, gave me a digital camera this weekend. I had gone months without getting any pictures! Do you know how crazy that has made me?!

I missed getting Dylon & Ashton's First Day of School photos in their new uniforms. I didn't get Dylon's first football game photos or Ashton's softball game photos. Its been rough.

Anyway, these were some shots I took over the weekend. Jeff surprised me Friday night with a date night. We had dinner, then hung out at a local book store with coffee and looking at silly books. It was the best time.

Then, Saturday, Jeff took Dylon to the LSU game. His boss gave him side-line seats, so he was thrilled. The girls and I just hung out at the house . I went to a reception on Saturday night. All in all, it was a relaxing weekend with family.

I'm An Author!!!!!!

Wow....all I can say is "wow". I am officially an author! I have signed with a publishing company and The Life of a Single Mom will be in bookstores and available for on-line purchase within months.

There has been so much to take place with the book in the last few months and I couldn't share much. It was so near and dear to my heart. Jeff and I have been in fervent prayer about the right publisher. I had received a couple of other book publishing contracts, but I couldn't sign them. I didn't have a peace about it.

This publishing company will put together a nation-wide book tour next year. Through God's grace, I received the endorsements of five published authors. I finished the book in three months.

Now.....I have the awesome honor of sharing with other single moms across the country, sharing with women, reaching others. I am humbled, ill-equipped, and in awe of God's grace.

Thanks to all of those who have stood with me during this time.

7 Signs My Two-Year-Old is Spending Too Much Time With Me....

#1). I bumped my head while doing some cleaning the other day. I screamed, "Ouch!" She says to me, "Momma bumped her head?" "Yes and it hurt!" I say to her. "I sowwy to hear dat, Momma," she says back sympathetically.

#2) I dropped off some donated items to one of the moms in the group yesterday. As we backed out of her driveway, my daughter says, "Is dat a single mom's house?"

#3) We visited a friend recently and my daughter asks where my friend's baby was. I told her he was in daycare. She says to me, "I too smart for daycare, huh? I too beautiful?"

#4) We are leaving to go to the store and I'm telling her to hurry, because we are late. Her response? "I am. Don't scweam at me. I forgot my purse!"

#5) I head over to get my older kids from car line at school and on the way Adrianne says to me, "We goin' to Barnes Nobles to get some cookies furst?"

#6) "Momma, I don't like your hair like dat. Let me fix it."

#7) And lastly......she is chewing on something in her mouth and I ask her what she is eating. Her response - "Germs."

Well........our camera is broken. And yes, it is under warranty, and no, I did not save the receipt. So.....another camera in less than a year. But, it is driving me crazy to not get pics of the kids to post on here. I wasn't able to get their first day of school, although they look super cute in their new uniforms.

Dylon is full-speed into football right now. This is his first year playing for the school, as his prior schools didn't offer it. He is doing quite well, I guess. Although, I have to admit, I don't know much about it. They will be having games starting next week, I think, so I'll keep you posted.

Ashton is playing softball. She started practice this week. I am not sure what position she'll play. She's being looked at for first base, since she's so much taller than most of the other girls.

They both have had a good bit of homework, which wouldn't be that big of a deal, if it weren't for not getting home to after 6:30pm every night due to sports practices.

The Goings-On of Summer

I haven't posted as much on here as normal, because I do update regularly on Facebook. Its been a busy summer. I've enjoyed being with the kids, going to the library, swimming, movies, family visits, etc.

I have not written as much about single moms on my personal website, because I started an official website http://www.thelifeofasinglemom.com where I have been posting thoughts, scriptures, schedules, and resources. I did, however, want to share a little of where I am with my projects. I am 80% completed with the book. I've written 12 of 13 chapters and then need to do revisions. I have had an official offer from a publisher to publish it, but did not accept it yet. I am waiting to see what God does with that.

I have several other radio shows booked over the next 6-12 months to discuss single mom issues. I will be featured in Power Women Magazine in March of next year. And, my hope is to start traveling to share with churches and community organizations more in 2010 (hopefully promoting my book via a book tour).

Its all so exciting, and so scary. Its been a challenge. I cannot tell you here all the attacks we have come under, but suffice it to say, the devil has been busy. Prayers are welcomed and requested. Love to all.

Apparently Dylon really owned the dance floor last night.......

The kids have been partying like crazy over the last few days. Of course, Ashton's party was a few weeks ago. Then, her best friend's party was Thursday night. She had a big swimming party that Dylon & Ashton went to. Finally, they had E's party, which was a dress-up party with 70s,80s, and 90s singers. Dylon has a new-found obsession with Michael Jackson as he watched Michael Jackson dance videos almost daily and sings and dances to them regularly. Obviously, he had to go as Michael Jackson.
